Kids’ Fun & Fitness Program – ages 7 to 12
Allison van Akkeren and Adrian Owens will lead this group in a variety of fun, active games and activities.   Full details to come soon!

Junior Development Program  - ages 9-14
This training program for competitive Bill Koch League racers will be designed by Pepa and led by several of our older junior skiers.  Activities will include running, pole-running, roller-skiing, strength training and core strength.  Kids will meet 2 times a week (probably Monday and Friday mornings) from mid-June through August.  (We can start sooner with some after-school sessions if kids are interested.)  Coaches will include Ida Sargent & Emily Dreissigacker and others.  Cost $50.

High School Summer Training – 14-18
This training program is offered for high school ski racers interested in stepping up to year-round training and improving strength, speed and technique.  Activities will include running, pole-running, roller-skiing, strength training and core strength.  The group will meet 3-4 times a week through the summer and will follow an overall plan designed by Pepa.   Coaches will include Pepa and Andrew Johnson.  Cost $150.

Advanced Junior Training – ages 14-16
Pepa will coach this group of experienced Junior skiers. Training will include rollerskiing, running and hillwork, strength training, and other activities.  The program will be designed by Pepa, and individualized for each athlete.  Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday mornings.  Cost: $150

Senior/Elite Training – ages 15 and up
This training group is designed for elite older junior racers and college skiers.  The group will do certain workouts with the Advanced Juniors, and other workouts separately. Training will include extensive rollerskiing, running and hillwork, strength training, and other activities.  The program will be designed by Pepa, and individualized for each athlete. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday mornings.  Cost: $150.

KIDS/PARENTS: It may take a few weeks for Pepa to determine which group is right for each skier.  There may also be some overlap between groups, i.e. some days certain groups may train together; other days they will train separately, depending on the activity.  For rollerskiing especially, it is preferable to keep the groups from getting too big.  If you have any questions about which program would be best for you or your skier, e-mail Judy (jgeer@pshift.com) or talk with Pepa.

Masters Summer Training

  • The CNSC Masters Summer Training Program will kick off in May with a dry-land training clinic TBA. at the Center.  Stay tuned for details in e-mails.
  • There will be a series of additional Masters clinics each month of the summer.  Dates will be announced via e-mail and posted on craftsburynordic.com.
  • Training Program: Pepa will design a Training Program for CNSC Masters to follow during the dryland season. It will include recommendations for type of training, volume, and intensity. Ranges will be given so that masters of different levels can all take advantage of the program.
  • In order to participate, you will need to give Pepa some information about your present level of conditioning and current training habits, if you haven’t already.
  • Cost for Summer Masters Training Program: $20 per clinic or $75 for everything all summer.

Our Coaches:
Head Coach - Pepa Miloucheva:
Pepa comes to us from Sofia, Bulgaria. She competed in ski orienteering and was World Champion in 1994. She was a member of the Bulgarian National Ski Orienteering Team from 1984 to 1995, during which time she won an additional two silvers and four bronze medals at World Championships. Pepa has a Masters in Physical Education and Sport from the Bulgaria Sport University, where she studied anatomy, sport physiology, biomechanics, and training theory. She has been coaching kids at Craftsbury for eight years, in addition to her responsibilities of teaching skiing, working with the sculling camps, and giving sports massage. For three of the last four years, she has served as a Coach of the New England Junior Olympic Team.

Assistant Coach – Andrew Johnson:
We are excited to have Andrew Johnson back in Craftsbury this summer after quite a few years on the U.S, Ski Team!  AJ will be working with our High School Training Group.  We expect he will also help to inspire ALL of us by doing some training with the Senior/Elite and Advanced Junior skiers.

Junior Coaches:
Ida Sargent has competed as a member of numerous New England Junior Olympic Teams (including podium appearances!) and also the US Scandinavia Cup teams.  Next year she will be skiing for Dartmouth College.
Emily Dreissigacker has been a member of numerous New England Junior Olympic Teams. Last summer she was on the U.S. Junior Rowing Team in the double sculls.  She will also be headed to Dartmouth in the Fall, for rowing and skiing.
Both Ida and Emily have been CNSC members training with Pepa since they were 9 years old!

CNSC Roller Skiing Rules

SKIERS:  Please read these carefully and follow these rules at all times.

  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Always ski on the right side of the road with traffic.
  • Ski single file as close to the edge of the pavement as possible.
  • Double pole when a vehicle is passing.
  • Do not pass another skier if there are any vehicles approaching from either direction.
  • Do not make a U-turn if there are any vehicles approaching from either direction.
  • When not skiing, step all the way off the road (for water breaks, between intervals, etc.)
  • Do not stop in places where you will not be visible to vehicles approaching from either direction.
  • If a driver seems nervous about passing you due to oncoming traffic,
blind curves, or too many skiers lined up, step off the pavement and wave
    the driver by.
  • Always be aware of vehicles on the road that might create a dangerous situation and give them the right of way if necessary (such as getting yourself on a narrow bridge just as vehicles are approaching the bridge from both directions).
  • If skiing in a group, yell "car back!" when a vehicle approaches from
    behind.
  • Avoid skiing in big groups.
  • Be courteous to anyone you encounter on the road (both in or out of vehicles). Never make an obscene gesture to a car driver.
  • If there is a lot of traffic, consider using a different section of road
or using it at a different time.
  • Be sure your equipment is in good working order.
